For the SERIOUS "do-it-yourselfer". plans are available to build your own wood box. Included with the plans are "grate kits" to install to your home-built wood box to ensure the success of this feeding system..
In addition to the welded, molded, powder coat painted steel grate, your kit includes all hardware (custom threaded and bored guide rods, heavy duty washers/bolts, safety chains & click pins) and illustrated plans for the box feeder. You need to supply your own lumber, nails, simple hand tools, and - above all - the time and willingness to build your own box!

A note about the KIT: When we first developed this hay feeding system and people started asking Dane to build GBBFs for them, we found it impossible to ship "complete" feeders made of wood (as ours were) without incurring ridiculous shipping charges. So, for several years, Dane provided these kits along with the instructions for persons to build their own wood boxes. Most kit purchasers had no problem cutting lumber to size, following instructions, and assembling the box. However, we did have a number of interested people who told us that they simply did not have the time to do so. As a result of several calls from kit purchasers who asked Dane to "please" supply them with a box, Dane found that he could ship ones of metal much more reasonably than wood ones.
In addition, the instructions for building a box to install the kit into are relatively simple. For someone experienced in simple building, the difficulty of building the box would probably be around "2" on a scale of 1 to 10.
Model #1999 and 1999s
Model 1999 is pictured with optional Weather Roof/Goat Guard, which hinges to an open position to allow easy loading of hay. Also pictured is the Heavy Duty Wheel kit installed.
We now have hay feeders with ALL STAINLESS STEEL floors, sides, grates, roofs: to ensure extra longevity, durability, no repainting needed. TOO NEW for photos - those shown with painted parts are painted steel.
Feeders are shipped assembled and include grate, all hardware, hay usage manual. All except the "Corporate Box" accommodate bales measuring up to 40x18x15. If your bales are longer or if you want to ration your hay, simply put partial bales into the box. These feeders sit flat on the ground with 12" to the specially molded top rail (to avoid matting/rubbing neck wool).
GRATES in both kits and complete boxes are slightly convex, allowing for lower walls so that even young animals and short-legged animals (Shetland, Jacob sheep) can comfortably feed from this system
These models have a continuous stainless steel sheet from one side to the other (floor is crimped to prevent condensation) for maximum hay savings. The two end pieces are grated for air circulation. This is our favorite model for most animals. Shipped ASSEMBLED.

Developed by popular demand from west coast breeders, this allstainless steel feeder.will take full bale loading of LARGE square bales (46x23x16", over 100lb bales) primarily produced on corporate farms for commercial resale, commonly found in the West. Completely assembled except for guide rods which are installed by buyer upon receipt of box. Corporate Box = $XXX - Currently unavailable.
